November 2, 2020, New York City – Coyle Hospitality releases Part II of their research series called Traveler Listening Post which examines emerging hospitality trends in a post-COVID world.
In an effort to gauge holiday travel intent, Coyle surveyed 179 members of its global panel. 81.6% of respondents stated that they anticipated traveling in the next three months with over half identifying “leisure” as their purpose of travel.
“One of the core questions we wanted to know from our panel is: what style accommodation are today’s travelers seeking? Where do traditional hotels rank in the list of expanding options as travelers adjust and needs change?” asked Jim Coyle, President at Coyle Hospitality.
Stating it clearly 74.0% of those surveyed sought branded (e.g. Marriott, Hilton) hotels or motels compared to 31.5% opting to stay in an Airbnb or other home rental. “There is a clear preference for brands travelers trust and are familiar with.”
With all the major hotel brands touting enhanced cleanliness programs, Coyle’s survey reinforced that COVID-related safety protocols (e.g. cleanliness pledge, etc.) are very important as 41.1% of hotel travelers surveyed agreed. When Coyle dug a bit deeper, those findings become more pronounced with safety standards and staff PPE usage as top factors travelers consider when selecting a hotel.
“We have been reminding our hotel clients that as guests scrutinize cleanliness and staff PPE usage, management must remain diligent. It takes just a single glitch to unravel all the work that has been done,” says Coyle.
