Prague has become one of Europe’s top destinations in less than a quarter-century. Now visitors are seeing more of the Czech Republic.
Straight out of a book of fairytales, the cities and towns of Bohemia lure visitors beyond the medieval towers of Prague to discover more delights in the Czech Republic.
The Czech Republic, bordered by Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Poland, lies in the heart of Central Europe. Highly appreciated for the beauty of its dreamy medieval spires beside a bend in the Vltava River, Prague attracts Western European visitors in significant and growing numbers. Even as Europeans make Prague their sixth most visited destination, Russia and America provide among the highest numbers of visitors.

A Dream Come True in Fairytale Towns
Since the peaceful Velvet Revolution of 1989 created the Czech Republic, followed by membership in the EU by 2004, the nation has been developing its tourism standards and strategy. As Prague secures its place among top destinations, visitors are being encouraged to take in more and more of cities, spa towns and countryside. Organizations such as the Czech Association of Hotels and Restaurants and the official tourism body of the Czech Republic are instrumental in the efforts to create standards and to grow awareness beyond Prague.
Prague’s notable beer festivals aside, among the themes to resonate with visitors are winter sports, cultural heritage, castles and châteaux, spa and wellness including medical tourism in towns such as Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně and Františkovy Lázně. Gorgeous fairytale towns seem to burst out of the countryside: pretty central market squares, hilltop towers and church bells, colorfully painted houses with red roofs, winding lanes, romantic cafés.
Písek has the country’s oldest bridge, Mikulov looks straight out of a Disney or Hans Christian Andersen illustration, Telč is part of UNESCO world heritage towns, featuring high gables houses and fish ponds, recognized as one of the most charming squares in Europe. Based on the theme of Cinderella, the German castle of Moritzburg, Czech Švihov Castle near Klatov and Ctěnice Château have created an event, indicating the depth and breadth of the marketing reach.
As these tourism delights and more are discovered by visitors wishing to look into Czech Republic offerings beyond Prague, Coyle Hospitality will assist in training efforts to create and to support the required infrastructure.
