Luxury hotel brands in Doha have opened 9,000 rooms in the past five years, with more expansion planned.
Up at the Sky Bar, walls bathed in electric shades of pink and turquoise, a DJ spins his stuff on the 15th floor of La Cigale Hotel. You could be forgiven for thinking of the Las Vegas Strip. Downstairs in the lobby, a large central crystal chandelier seems to say Leading Hotels of the World, which indeed it is.

Doha Leads in Luxury Hospitality
Business travel is a key driver in the hotel stakes, as Doha has not aggressively fashioned itself as a leisure destination in the way Dubai has.
Luxury hotels catering to expense accounts are numerous, including Four Seasons, W Hotel, Grand Hyatt, Ritz-Carlton, InterContinental, Kempinski and St. Regis, where Hakkassan is the best
new restaurant in Doha. Honorable mentions go to IDAM, La Varrenne, Magnolia Bakery and Majlis at the Grand Hyatt. The Marriott boasts The Pearl Lounge Club, another Doha answer to sin city.
At The Pearl-Doha, one of the Middle East’s newest destinations, a newly-developed island environment with harbor and marina adds luxury residences, dining and shopping. This is home to the new Four Seasons Hotel as well as a stunning outpost of Megu, the modern Japanese cuisine innovators straight out of Manhattan.
Khalifa International Stadium is part of the Doha Sports City Complex. Cementing its place on the world sports front and always looking to the future, the city has already been awarded the 2022 FIFA World Cup Event for its first foray into the Middle East. For sure, Doha has set its sites on hosting a future Summer Olympics, too. Outside city center, at the Aspire Zone sports complex, The Torch rises 51 stories, connecting shopping savvy hotel guests to the popular Villaggio mall.
Importantly a leader in education, communications and media out of the Middle East, Doha is the world headquarters of Al Jezeera Network. The city was named in Fortune’s best new cities for business in 2011, shortly after adding about 9,000 gleaming new hotel rooms to the local inventory.
The capital of Qatar is situated on the Persian Gulf, home to a large and rapidly growing expatriate community. Next on the agenda is the much-anticipated, delay-ridden ribbon-cutting for the brand new airport, Hamad International, where Qatar Airways and others will set down on the world’s longest runway.
