In previous segments, many of The Staff articles have addressed employee retention and the need to keep people happy at their job. What about working well with others? While we spent time thinking of ourselves and our needs, what is happening to those we work with, even if they are not seated at the next desk or in an adjacent office?
This Yahoo Finance article lists the top five picks that detract from bliss in the workplace are:
- Dumping last minute work on staff when you could have avoided doing so.
- Complaining about others, and not mentioning the issue directly to the person involved.
- Exuding negativity.
- Bringing your personal life into the workplace in ways that make others uncomfortable.
- Being defensive even if the reason for doing so is not justified.
The work atmosphere, the camaraderie of fellow employees and owners, and the continuing personal development opportunities are the primary reasons employees remain at a company and successful retention has been achieved.
