If you said massages, you’d not only be right – but right by a wide margin.
According to the Coyle Hospitality Group and WTS International Spa Sentiment Research Report for 2009, massages were booked 92% of the time, followed by pedicures (63%) and facials (62%).
Least-booked treatments – laser treatments (5%) and injectibles (3%); and least-favored treatments – manicures (27%) and scrubs (26%).
Which treatments would spa goers give up because of budget concerns? Wraps and scrubs, according to 25% of respondents.
And most significant issues pertaining to spa visits – price for 79% and service for 42%.
Interestingly, 74% choose their spa on the basis of word of mouth and 62% of hotel/resort guests feel it’s somewhat important for the property to have a spa while 15% consider it very important.

New Malaysian Spa Directory
The Association of Malaysian Spas (AMSPA) has launched its inaugural issue of AMSPA’s Spa Directory in partnership with Tourism Malaysia.
The directory is a guide to Malaysia’s best spas and wellness spas and showcases AMSPA members’ spas, resorts and premier hospitals. It also promotes mind, body and spirit wellness, a major tourist initiative by Tourism Malaysia, which will distribute the directory world wide.
New Executive Chef at Anantara Koh Samui
Bernard Koll has been appointed executive chef at Anantara Si Kao Resort on Koh Samui, Thailand. He comes to Anantara with a top level culinary education and experience in some of the finest kitchens around the world.
